INSTITUTE OF SURVEYORS.
(BY TKLEBRAPII.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
Wellington, this day. A deputation of surveyors waited on Mr Seddon to-day to ask the Government to introduce a Bill this session incorporating the Surveyors' Institute. They pointed out thab there was no desire to' fdrm a close corporation, excluding any surveyors ab present holdiog licenses, and the legislation wanted was chiefly to put the profession upon a proper basis and protect the public. The Conference recently held in Melbourne drafted a Bill bo be introduced by all the colonies, creating a Board of Examinere, and it was contended it would be a loss to New Zealand if it held aloof from Australia in the matter. The Premier plainly told the deputation ho was averse to the creation of any close corporation which would confer any monopoly upon members. He agroed that the present system of examinations was detective, but thought it could be remedied, perhaps, without special legislation. The deputation said there was no desire to exclude anyone who could pass the prescribed examination. The Premier assured the deputation that the matter would be considered in Cabinet.
