Drunkenness.-Eliza McGinn was fined 40s and 2a cab hire for being drunk, or in defaulb 14 days in Mount Eden.— Chae. Folke waa mulcted in a penalty of 5s and 2s 6d cab hire, or 14 days' imprisonment for the same offence. Neighbours' Troubles.—Arthur Lloyd was charged thab on the sth of October, ab Waikomiti, ho used threatening and abusive language towards William Appleton by saying to him, " I can make shorb work of you with that," meaning that he could kill William Appleton with a sheath knife which he had in his hand.—Mr S. Hesketh appeared for complainant, and Mr W. J. Napier for defendant.—The parties were neighbours and farmers ab Waikoraid, and the charge arose in connection with three cattle that the complainant told his boys to drive to the pound. Subsequently complainant) and defendant had an altercation. The complainant) in his evidence said that he apprehended serious bodily harm from the defendant, and asked that he be bound over to keep the peace.—The defendanb was sworn, and deposed that he saw one of complainant's boys driving his (witness1) cattle down the road. He asked the lad wbab ho was doing with the animals. The boy's father cried out " hit him on the head with a whip." Complainant then came up with a bill-book and threatened to strike witness. Witness told him that) if ho used the bill • hook he would be compolled to defend himself. Witness then threw down his sheath knife and challenged complainant to fighb with his fists in good old English fashion. A number ot witnesses were examined, the hearing of the case occupying one hour and a-half.—Dr. Giles said that if he had to judge from the evidence who was to bo bound over to keep the peace, he should say thab ib was tho complainant and nob the defendant. The case would be dismissed.
