The Messrs Pegbane have accepted the tender of James Jackson for the formation of a road through their property, and fcho work ia to be commenced at one. Tha road, when formed, will bo a convenience to the public. The monthly meeting of the Whangarei County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Whangarei, on Wednesday last. A large amount of general business wa3 transacted. Accounts to the amount) of £397 10a were passed for payment. Tho recent decision given by the Native Land Court re the Omiru block, on which the Waimea Falls are situated, has not given satisfaction, and the natives have applied for a rehearing of the case. The Whangarei Lawn Tennis Club intend to commence the season on Thursday 19th insb.; several new members have joined, and there is every prospect of a successful season. A largo deposib of sporia suitable for ballasting the Hikurangi railway line has been found in a large hill adjoining the railway line, belonging to Jas. VVhitelaw. The easy facilities for removing will greatly cheapen the coat of ballasting tho lino, besides insuring its much speedier construction. Over 1,200 women have registered on tho Marsdon roll, which at the presenb time contains more than double the nutabor registered at the time of the last election.
