CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

Ths usual meeting of the City Schools Com* mibtee was held last night. Present:—Mr J. Blades (Chairman), Dr. McArthur, and Messrs Farrell, Fairs, Crowe, Adams, Burns. The Secretary of the Board of Education wrote notifying for the information of the Committee changes in the pupil teachers and probationsrs at the Wellesley-streeb, Bereßford-streeb, Napier-street, Nelsonstreet and Chapel-st. schools, as authorised '. by the Board. The Secretary of the Board of Education also wrote that the Board consents to leave Miss Davis at the Napierstreet school in view of the representations made by the Committee from the headmaster. On the motion of Mr Farrell, ib was agreed that the Board of Education be requested to appoinb a permanent assistant to fill tho vacancy caused by the removal of Miss Hould from the Beresford • street School. Mr J. S. Small, Truanb Inspector, wrote that be bad refused to accept a letter addressed to him for which a fine of 2d was requested. He had no funds to meet such demands oub of his inadequate salary, which was already strained in the purchase of stationary and expenses necessary to tho application of the compulsory clauses. It was agreed to bring the matter under tho notice of the Board of Education. A report from Mr W. H. Draffin as to apparatus required to teach pupils agricultural science, was allowed to stand ovor until next meeting. Applications for leave for absence from teachers, to attend the University examinations were received. The Committee agreed to recommend them to the Board on condition thab substitutes be provided.
