NEWTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Newton Borough Council was hold last) nighb. Present:—Mr S. C. Brown (tho Mayor), and Crs, Webloy, Holdon, English, Warnoek, and Portor.

The Town Clerk reported that tho consumption of water for tho fortnight ending September 18th, was 228,000ga!5., being 39iOOI)j»al8, more than for tho previous lurtinijjht. A discussion ensued aa to whether the lady should be proaecuted, but eventually it was decided to tako no action. It was agreed to have the water meter of tho borough taken out and tested.

Accounts amounting to £77 Os 8d were paeßed for paymont.

T!io amount owing to the Council by the Arch Hill Road Board was discussed. The Mayor said the debt amounted to between £140 and i'iSO. It was agreed to make a peremptory demand to the Board for payment of tho amount due, the account to bo imbmiUbd in the first instance to the Finance Committee.

Itepaxra to the Old Mill Road were aßkod for by Cr. VVarnock, and referrod to the Streets Committee.

It was agreed to call the attention of the City Council to the dangerous stute of the Richmond Road bridge over Cox's Creek, and request that it bo pub in repair.

On the motion of Cr. Donald, it was decided to notify the property-owners of the borough to clear the goreo from the streets! in front of their allotments.
