THE CHEMIS CASE.

Wellington, this day. A deputation, composed of eighteen members oi the House of Representatives and six Italians, residents of Wellington, waited oa tho Premier yesterday afternoon with roforenco to the caso of the convict Louis Chemis. It was contended thab the Crown had never proved Chemis' guilty, and thab a gross miscarriage of justice had occurred which might have boon obviated if a Criminal Court of Appenl had been established in Now Zealand. Tho Premier in reply said tbo matter wa3 one of serious moment, and the Government would deal with it in Cabinet. Tho Government would fully probe the matter. Ho pointed out that if an Appeal Court for criminal cases had existed in the colony there would be no cause for tho dissatisfaction which had arisen in connection with this case,'and he felt tho sooner the law wae altered in chia respect tho better it wculd be.
