The weather was bad for the football match on Saturday afternoon, a strong wind and a driving mL>t prevailing for the most of the time. The team Holecced from the various clubs from tho Goldfields were defeated by 13 to nil. In the match 'Southland v. Otago, which followed, Otago won by 9 points to 4. J. Torrance scored two tries, and Martin one for Otngo, the lutter being converted. Otago had v free kick for interference under tho posts, but having no place kick nothing came of it. Cuff played a tine game at tlio back for the visitors, and Hurst did good service. McRobie was the best of tho forwards. For Otago, Duncan played the poorest ;;nme of the season, but Armit was very brilliant. The local forwards were an even lot.

The Melroeo Club won tho Junior Rugby Cup by a try to nil against Ponoke. Theaa two club 3 had previously played a drawn game.
