A Melbourne telegram of date of September 6th, saya : The person calling herself Jack Jorgenson, who died at Elinors last evening.and who turned out to be a woman, had for years concealed her so.«. She was known in the district as " Jack Jorgcnsen." She went to tho districn as a farm labourer, but'did not show any great desire to obtrudo on the notice of the roaidenbs. Though living a iono y life in a araall hub, she did not act as one who had anything to conceal. She wore masculine attire in a natural manner, bub thoro was a tone of femininity in her voico that sha couid nob conceal. In 1887 she joined tho local mounted rifles, a:id attended almost every drill and every camp until 1801, whun the resigned. Her face presented a remarkable appearance, it having been torribly injured by afraumentof shell during tha course ot' the Schleewig-iiobtein war between Pruspia and Denmark. She statsd that in her youth eho had boon a soldier in the German army, and had seen active service in the Franco- Prussian War of IS7O. Jorgeneon was a Dane, and .so far as is known, had no relatives here. Her sex was disclosed only after her death, the only person knowing oi ie being Dr. Haase, of Elmore, who attended her eoino time sines.

Tho woman Jorgenscn is believed to be tha sister of a Mra Newman, cf South Melbourne. Deceased had been using male attire for 20 years, and did all sorts of heavy manual work, including grubbing trees and harvesting.
