FILLIS'S CIRCUS.

ARRIVAL TO-DAY.

OPENS TO-NLGHT,

One of the besb shows—if not the be3fc—in the circus and inonagerie " line," that New Zealanders have yet had in their midat— Fillis'a circus and menagerie—arrived id Auckland this morning from the South, in order to open a season in this city. The first performance of: the show will take place at eight o'clock this evening, fclis Bite fixed for the circus being one of the Harbour Board reclamations fronting on Quay-street Eaefc, cioso to the harbour foreshore. The circus is a vory .well appointed one, and with tho large menageria of wild animals which accompanies it, the show \3 sure do ba very largely patronised by Aucklandera. ' The circus and menagerie, under the management of Mr Fillis, arrived here this moraing from Napier by the Union Steamship Company's steamer Taviuni, and were landed at tho Quay-street jetty during the day. The menagerio comprises five peiV forming elephants, a royal Bengal tiger, tour Nubian lions, and a number of zebras, wild panthers, gorillas and small ho-t of monkeys. The stable consists of 50 educated horses, 15 trick ponies, and 7 Hungarian and Arab horses, all trained by the proprietor himself. The company numbers no fewer than 30 artistes and hands in all. The large tent for the performance was erected on the reclamation tc-day, in an excellent site, the approaches to which are from Quay-street. The tent is a very spacious one, being several hundred yards in circumference. The whole of the pavilion will bo brilliantly illuminated by gas. A good string orchestra of 25 perlormers will supply the music during the performance. The opening performance will be given ah eight o'clock thi3 evening, and thereafter two performances—one at 3 and the other at 8 p.m.—will bo given each day,
