RETRENCHMENT OF SEVERAL

PROMINENT OFFICERS,

Wellington , , this day. Mr G. A. Cooper, Under-Secretary for the colony, and Mr W. R. E. Brown, RegistrarGeneral, will retire almost immediately on a pension, receiving three months' salary in lieu of notice. In all probability Mr Hugh Pollen, chief clerk in the Colonial Secretary's office, will succeed Mr Cooper, and Mr E. Yon Dadelsyen, Deputy, will become Registrar ■ General. It is stated that in addition to Mi , Cooper and Mr Brown, several other Civil servants of lesser rank are also about to retire.
