AN ENTERPRISING FIRM.

Messrs Smith and Caugiiey, the wellknown drapers of Queen-street, have just issued for the benefit of their numerous patrons, and especially thoee living in districts miles away from Auckland, an illustrated price list of the standard lines of poods kept in stock, and from the number of departments it can be seen at a glance what an immense trade must be done by the firm. Great prominence is of course given to that branch which first brought the name of Smith and Caughey into the first ranks; we refer to their special parcel system, by means of which country residents can for a few pounds obtain a supply of necessary requirements by simply quoting the number of the parcel as printed in the price list. For the male portion of the firm's clients who prefer their clothes made to measure, illustrations of different styles and makes are given, also a self-measurement form. To enable the fair sex to study the latest fashions in dresses, hats, cloaks, mantles, etc., seven pagos are found to be illustrated. The pamphlet contains some sixty page?, and scattered through it) are many useful and valuable pieces of information, such as rates of postage for letters, a sufficient fence, how to make a will, calendar for 1892 and part of 1893, San Francisco mail service, etc., etc. The general "get-up" is excellent, the paper being of first-class quality, and the typa clear and readable. The wrapper is printed in colours on tinted paper, and bears a very attractive appearance. There are also faithful views of the Free Public Library and Art Gallery, Harbour Board OfSces, and Mount Egmont, while at the end of the book, order forme, perforated so as to be torn out, are appended. The price list was entrusted by Smith and Caughey to the Star office for printing, and the firm is well satisfied with the manner in which the extensive order (7,500 copies) has been»burned out.
