WALTER BENTLEY SEASON.

•' MONEY."

The production of Lord Lytfcon's clover comedy, •• Money," ab the Opora Houso last evening, was another acceptable change in the varied programme with which Mr Walter Bentley is entertaining his patrons. The comedy depends for succsss to a groab extent upon the dialogue, and tho conversations are apt to become tedious unless the performers are capable. The character of Evelyn, which was admirably acted by Mr Bentley, was an excellent, study, in which the most careful attention was given to minute details. Born in poverty, reared in the lap of penury, his love. rejected bocause of his poverty, the hero appears ab enmity with the world. His moralising ia extremely bitter and satirical, and is calculated to show how things may be pereistently viewed through dark glasses. Elevated most unexpectedly from poverty to alirsosb unlimited wealth, Evelyn, from hating the world, comes to despise ib, bub the old love continues to assert itself, and in the long run gains the victory. Tho character affords scope for the display of Mr Bentley'a groat versatility, and he makes Evelyn a highly interesting individual, with whom tho sympathies of the audience appear to run. Mr Lachlan McGowan gave an ablo representation of Sir John Vesey, and brought out sharply tho money-grab-bing proclivities of the old man. Miss Hansen's Clara waa perhaps somewhab lacking in vigour, bub it was a careful and creditable interpretation of the character. Miss Deorwyn had a congenial part as Lady Franklin, and imparted a good deal ot life into the play. Sir Greenaway as Sir Frederick Blounb played the " dude" to the life, and Mr Alderson was excellent in the character of Captain Dudley Smooth. Mr Holloway made a very good Stout, and the character of Graves, of which the name is significant, was very well played by Mr Crawford. Miss Thome's Georgina lacked energy. The other characters were creditably taken, and on the whole, the production was a successful one. " Money " will be reproduced this evening.
