SATURDAY'S MATCHES,
Saturday last was a most favourable one for local cricketers; the Domain was in good order, and as the batsmen had the advantage, some very respectable scores were made. Most interest was centred in the match between Auckland and United. Tha latter w.on the toss and decided to bat, but the three tirsb wickets fell for 15, when Miller and Mumford made a good etand, the latter playing very steadily, while Miller hib the bowlers in all directions, makitig some very hard strokes, till Mumford stepped out to Neiil and was stumped. Yatea filled the breach, but was unfortunately run out when he had scored 4, and shortly after Miller was neatly stumped for a well-earnt 43. None Of the other batsmen troubled the bowlers for any lengthy period, and United's innings closed for SO. Auckland started their innings with O'Brien' and liowlebfc, and both played good cricket till O'Brien was run out, with the score at 22. Arneil partnered Howlebb, and was beginning to cause trouble when lie was diemiseed by a fine catch afc Miller's hands. T. Neill joined Howlett and runs came very fast, both batsmen scoring rapidly, although several bowlers were tried till at 77 11.I 1 . Neill was caught by Richards, who was fielding sub. J. G. Webster filled tho breach and played out time, Howlebb being not out for 68, made by a good display of cricket. The following; are the detailed scores :— United.— Firsb Innings. C.
