(PRESS ASSOCIATION.*
[BY KLKCTKIO T£LEGHAPH"-OOPYRIQHT.'|
London, December 6. At the next meeting of the Colonial Institute Sir E. C. N. Braddon, AgentGeneral, for Tasmania, will read a paper defending Australia and its people from the aitacks which have been made on them in articles appearing in the leading English newspapers and magazines* A forecast of the paper has been supplied, in which Sir E. C. N. Braddon declares that the Hon. J. "W. Fortescue is a disappointed colonist, and that bis flimsy charges are a re-hash of" Fairplay's" misleading statements. He cites the opinian of one of the foremost authorities on the trade railway statistics which states that the charges are unintelligible, and that the Australian railways are a good investment for the sake of the incidental advantages, even if the present deficit were incidental to taking railways into a new country. The libels of Mr Francis Adams on tho people of Australia, he asserts, are equally untrue, and he deplores the attacks made on the lute Hon. W. B. Dalley, of New South Wales. Sir E. C. N. Braddon ridicules the idea that Australia displays any hatred towards England, or a desireto repudiate her rosponsibiliteie. Hβ also answers the wrath of Mr Christie Murray.
