BLAND HOIT'S COMPANY.

"THE GOLDEN LADDER"TO ■ NIGHT.

There was a large attendance at the Opera House on Saturday night-to witness the last production of " The Bella of Haslernere." The drama was well acted and splendidly staged, and at the conclusion of each act the principals were called before the curtain. Tonight "The Golden Ladder" will be produced. This play is what is termed on the playbill "the great missionary play," and is really a powerful piece, full of interesting incidents of both a pathetic ' and humorous kind. It abounds in strong dramatic situations, one or two of which are very effective. A Christchurch paper, speaking of "The Golden Ladder," says :— " One doe 3 not even now know which piece of Mr Hole's to admire mosi. Mrs Holt was once more seen to advantage as Lilian Grant, and in the pathetic portions, which required to be carefully handled, was very natural. Miss Edith Blande ' put up a surprise' on her admirers by playing (the playbill said to strengthen? the cast) the part of ' The Tearer,' a character that in less capable hands would have probably been scarcely noticeable, bub Mies Blande made it stand out as one of the most prominent in the piece. The Key. i'r&u'k Thornhill of Mr Walter Howe par<£ that -gentleman the best opportunity he had during the season of proving what a thorough, earnest artist he is, and he _ took advantage of- it and acquitted himself well right through. One must not forget Mr Bland Holt himself, and I never remember eeeing this versatile comedian to better advantage. His {?amuel Peckaby, pastry-cook find coufeefctaner, was a life-, like pourtrayal, his niake-upvonce more beine itself a feature." The farewell performance ot Bland Holt's Company in Auckland takes place to-morrow night.
