CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the abovo body was held yestorday afternoon. Present: Messrs C. Atkin (Chairman), J. Swales, Lennox, Gooseman, Bollard, Dignan, Kidd, and Udy. HosriTAL.—The Medical Superintendent reported that there were 67 males and 39 fomales in the Hospital. House Committee. —This Committee reported recommending that second year probationer Burnsido bo appointed a charge nurse. Lawler's Case.—A lettor was read from William Lawler, who had beon sent to Rotorua, stating that so far his condition had nob improvod. He stated bhab tho Maoris had offered him the use of a whare, and to " rub him." As tho springs at Whakarewarowa are as good a3 those ab Rotorua, ho suggested thab the Board should allow him 10a per week, and ho could remain there until cured. —The Board decidod to grant tho request. The Costltcy Home.—Tho manager reported bhab bhere were ab present 111 men and 30 women in the Home. With regard to tho claim by bhe One Tree Hill Board for rates on the Costley Home bhe following letter was read from Messrs Hoskebh and Richmond:—"Wo have considered the question as to the liabiiiby of tho Board for tho rates claimed by tho One Tree Hill Board in respect to the Costley Home, and wo havo como to the conclusion that the Homo is fairly within bhe exception mentioned in sub.-sec. 8 of sec. 2 of bhe Rating Acb, 1882, and that ib is therefore _' not' rateable property within the meaning of bhe Acb." Tho Board decided to forward a copy of the solicitor's lotter to the One Tree Hill Board. HosriTAL Improvements.—Mr Bollard gave notice bhat ab bho nexb meeting he would move that all tho old and useless buildings at the Hospibal be ab once removed, and thab a landscapo gardener be employed to lay oub biio grounds and plant bhe same with flowering shrubs.

The Board then went inbo commibbeo to deal with routine business.
