MICROSCOPICAL SOCIETY.
A meeting of the Auckland Microscopical Society was held at the Auckland Institute last evening, when there were present .- Proiessor Thomas (President), Messrs Cooper, E. Bartley, Josiah Martin, Sylow, Trevithiek, Sylow, Howden, and Dr. Roberton.
Professor Thomas said the objecb of the meeting was to discover whether ib was possible to hold meetings of the Society during the coming winter, and whether they should continue as hitherto or otherwise. He did nob consider the meeting a representative one, as he knew ab loasb fitby obhers who had microscopes with which they frequently worked. In the past there was a subject assigned to a member, and others were supposed to discuss it, bub that had nob proved practical enough. They should havo a place like a workshop, and every person possessing a microscope ( should be able to mount specimens.
Mr Bartley said the question really was where they were to meet. Unless some of the University Rooms were placed ab their disposal, he did not see any way out of the difficulty. He moved, "That ib is desirable bhab the Society should take a more practical form, and that the meetings should be held in some place where practical microscopical work can be carried out." This was agreed to.
On the motion of Dr. Roberton a committee was appointed to take such measures as they might deem advisable to give effect to this resolution.
It was further resolved to have the meetings of the Socieby forbnighbly.
