The Hon. A. J. Cadman, who represenbs the Coromandel constituency in the House of Representatives, has been sworn in as Native Minister. Mr Cadman will also have charge of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Department. The new Native Minister is a Maori linguist, and thoroughly conversant, with native cusboms and traditions, therefore well qualified to hold the portfolio in question. He has always been respected by the Maoris of his own district, and will prove an efficient occupant of the office cf Native Minister, and will have plenty to do in the near, future, as there is a large arrear ol work in connection wibh Native Land, awaiting him. A bebter man bo administer the Hoapital and Charitable Aid affaira could nob well be found, as he has had considerable experience of bhe subjecb as chairman of bhe Coromandel Counby Council.—Wanganui "Herald."
At 3 p.m. to-day two barques, inward bound, were outside Tiri. They will probably be the Essex, Capt. Schaube, from Dunedin, and the Loongan*. (~kjj» Bvans, _rt>_> LyU-!to«v
