PUHIPUHI SILVER MINES.
*——- • CRUSHING RETURNS SATISFACTORY. Mr J. Harrison, Chairman of directors of the Prospecbors' No. 1 mine ab Puhipuhi, arrived in bown last night from bhe. Thames.. He broughb wibh him a bar of bullion containing 750z, mostly silver. This was the producb of 35cwb of sbone, which has been breated ab bhe Thames School of Mines. The bailings are nob yeb cleaned up, so that a complete return is not yet to hand. The , proceeds of two bons of Bbuff also awaib reborting, which should be finished bomorrow. In order to see which process is ..the most suitable, one ton of stone has been forwarded to the- Onslow battery for treatment, and another ton was senb bo Casble's (Karangahake) for treatment. Mr Harrison is now fully satisfied thab the stone will average forty-five ounces per bon, which will pay handsomely. The cosb of mining and- breabing bhe ore will, Mr Harrison considers, be less bhan 25s per ton. This is his decision after seeing the method adopted ab Waihi. The ore has proved bo be free milling. The bullion was smelted bhis morning at bhe Bank of New Zealand, and was on view this afternoon at Mr F. A. White's office.
