WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of tho Waitemata County Council was held at the office, Palmerston Buildings, this afternoon. Present: Messrs A. Bruce (Chairman), McLeod, Moflatt, Sinclair, Macky,' O'Neill, Bishop.

Finance Committee.—The Commifcteo recommended that tenders be invited for 300 cubic yards ot broken metal for Lucas Creek ; that Martin's contract, of £35 for work on Waimauku Swamp Road be accepted ; Mr J. Maya's contract for new bridge at Takapuna having been completed his account for £29 15s was passed for payment; it was resolved to offer £16 10s in fuli payment of Wells's account. The Committee recommended that the dog tax be brought into operation in the Waitakerei Hiding of the county and Ararimu outlying districts after Ist July, and that tho fee lor each dog be ss; the engineer applied that 35 pipes bo forwarded to Cr. Moffatti for theciilvorts on tho Wade- Wainui Road. —The report was adopted.

Grant fob. tub Ukemi'loyed.—Tho Finance Committee reported that the grant was considered in detail; and._.it >yas resblved'that the works' fife Waikomiti ancj Henderson be commenced and carried on simultaneously till the next meeting of tho Council. The report was adopted.

Balance-sheet.—Mr O. Mays, Secretary, read the balance-sheet for the year ending March 31st, 1888. Receipts amounted 10 £5,584 3s Bd, and expenditure to £5,446 2s lOd, leaving a cash balance in hand of £138 0s lOd. Assets were estimated at £2,047 16s Id, and liabilities £1,089 0s lOd. The accounts were audited by the Auditor-General, who drew attention to the necessity for publishing the balance-sheet. The Chairman 3aid he had gone carefully over the items and checked them, and he had found everything clearly and intelligently recorded. Mr Sinclair moved that the report be adopted and printed, and this was agreed to.

Finance. — The Secretary stated that during April and May £651 15s 4d had been collected out of £1,089 arrears of rates. The balance to debit of the Council was £586 19s 6d, and accounts to be paid to-day £164 16s 4d, making a total debit balance of £75118s lOd.
