OUT OF SEASON.
Frank Williams, fishdealer, appeared at the Police Court to-day on a charge of having oysters in his possession within the period indicated by law as the close season. Mr Cotter appeared for defendant, and pleaded noc guilty. Mr Hudson Williamson, who prosecuted, said seven bags of oysters were found on Mr Williams's premises last Monday. So f r a3 he was aware, this was the first time he had been guilty of this offence; but he Was a dealer in a large way, and thus had facilities for evading the law if he chose to do so. The fine could not be less than £1 nor more than £50, and he suggested that it should be sufficient to cover costs. Mr Cotter I urged that the penalty should be a moderate ohe,; and His Worship fined the defendant 40s and costs.
