TO WELLINGTON ON BICYCLES.
SUPERIORITY OF THE AUCKLAND
MADE MACHINE.
MESSRS. BUCHANAN AND
WALKER'S TRIP.
(BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
Wellington, this day. The Auckland bicyclists, A. G. Buchanan and J. A. Walker, arrived in town by the Manawatu train last night having well nigh made the journey from Auckland on wheeis. They struck through Taupo across to Napier and thence acrossi to Palmerston North. The route they should have taken was by the Forty Mile Bush and Wairarapa, but they were ill-advised and went across instead. They consequently found themselves compelled to take . the train from Palmerston, for the nature of the road, not to speak of the difficulties in regard to tide, would have made a bicycle ride too long and too heavy. Buchanan and Walker took train therefore and arrived in town last night. The journey to Napier was accomplished in six days, a delay Laving occurred in the Waikato where Walker's machine came to ..grief. .Leaving. Napier on Tuesday they made Palmerston at midday on Thursday. Walker rode a Rudge machine and Buchanan one made by Service of Auckland. Of the latter machine, Buchanan speaks very highly. It stood the wear and tear of the journey splendidly and is uninjured. The English bicycle ridden by Walker, on the other hand, has almost collapsed. The superiority of the colonial made article, in fact, was very palpable.
