THE NERBUDDA.
' Captain E. Calder, who visited this port as-master of the ship Nerbudda last year, writes from Peterhead to a friend in Auckland :.'' I expect-you will be surprised to get a letter from me, but I was thinking that perhaps you consideredl had gone down
in the ill-fated Nerbudda. I suppose you have seen particulars of her loss in the "Gazette." When I arrived in England, after the last unfortunate voyage, I sent in myresignation to theowners. TlieNerbuclda left Cardiff on the 14th October for Calcutta under command of Captain Taylor, and caught bhab hard gale which did so much desbrucbion in the British Channel. There were several fine ships lost, but the Nerbudda was the only one that foundered, all the obhers coming ashore. All hands belonging bo bhe Nerbudda were lost." Capbain Calder bhen goes on to state that he has obtained command of a steel steam yacht now in course of construction, and expects to visit New Zealand in her. The late second and third officers of the Nerbudda go with Captain Calder as chief and second, and the carpenter as carpenter and bosun.
