ANOTHER DIRECT STEAMSHIP LINE.
An announeemenb is made in the Dunedin papers with reference) to the Shire line of direct steamers, comprising the Fifeshire, Elginshire, Ross-shire, and Eldorslie. The firsb steamer will bo bho Fifeshiro (sbill building), a magnificent steamship of 5,200 tons carrying capaciby. She is classed 100 Al ab Lloyds, is 345 ft.'lone ; has a breadbh of beam of 47fb Gin ; and depth of hold, 24fb Cm. Her engines are 4,000-norse power, and of a 'new and greatly improved type. Sho will have accommodabion for 50 saloon passengers, and is expected to make the run from Now Zealand to London in 45 days. The Fifeshire will come out under command of Captain W. A. Millar, who, until lately, had command of the Elderslie. The Dunedin agents ate Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. A charter has been signed extending over three years, in which both the New Zealand Refrigerating Company and the South Canterbury Refrigerating Company are interested. A third of the meat space, or about 8,000 or 9,000 carcasses, will be reserved for tho South Canterbury Company. The vessel will also load up with wool. They will call at Port Chalmers, Oamaru, and Timaru, and each of tho three ports will be visited four times a year.
