An Absurd By-Law.
Tun by-law* of the borough of Napier aro wonderfully made. Eight littlo boys wroro brought boforo tho K. M. yesterday, charged with committing a breach of tho by-law rcgulatine bathing. Ona child was sitting en a scat on tho Marino Parade dressed ia a sin;;lot imd trousers. It was a fearfully hot day, and scores of children wore dabbling in tho surf, so ho ran across the beach and took a dive. Sergeant O'Grady said the by-low prohibited bathing altogether except botwuun tho hours of 0 p.m. and 7 a.m., and tho polico wero thinking of prosecuting tho proprietor of the swimming baths, for bathing thoro was actually contrary to law. The it.M. said if tho law were strictly enforced it would prevent him having his morning tub. All the cases wero dismissed. Tho Peach Crop. Tho accounts from tho country state that many peach trees apparently dead last year from blight aro bearing good crop 3of fruils this season. Mortality. Tho vital statistics show deaths registered in ISapier during January to bo 22, of which 12 aro infants, mostly from dysentery.
