The following is tho result of tho senior scholarship examination as presented at tho meeting of tho Board of Education this afternoon : - Scholarships gamed by : Ist, Annie Murray, 14 years, of Thames High School, 2,SIS marks ; 2nd, Basil Nelson Tebbs, 13 years, Auckland College and Grammar School, 2,767 marks ; 3rd, Earnest William Cartor, 14 years, Auckland College and Grammar School, 2,395 marks. Possible maximum, 4,650 marks. Certificates of Prlficiency wero gained by James Drummond, 13 years, Auckland College and Grammar School, 2,379 marks ; and Arthur Bon. Robertson, 14 years, Auokland Collogo and Grammar School, , 2,167 marks. Noto-Robort Alexander 1 MoGullough, No. 1, 13 years, of Auckland College and Grammar School, obtained 2,253 marks, but failed in history, and was thoreby disqualified from gaining a cortitionto of proficiency. Junior. Floionce Lillian Hall, 12 years 9 months, Waiokaraku, Thames, 491 marks ; George Arthur Somervillo, 12 years 10 months, Onehunga, 477 marks ; Harold James D.;l Monte Mahon, 12 years 11 months, Newton East, 404 murk? ; Samuel Harris, 12 \eurs 1 month, Waiokaraka, Thames, 455 marks; Fanny Elizabeth Macdonald, 12 years 1 months, Wellesley street, 435 marks ; Clara Calvert, 12 years 2 months, Wellesloy-street, 416. Certificates of Proficiency wero gained by James John Parker, 12 years 7 months, Pensonby, 393 marks; John Watson, 12 years 10 months, Kattaetanga Boys', Thames, 359 mark*.
Note.—The following candidates failed in one subject only, and thereby are Jis qualified from obtaining certificates of proficiency : — Andrew Alfred Martin, 12 years, Wel-lesley-street School, 407 marks, failed in arithmetic.
Louise Hansen, 12 years, Parawai school, Thames, 399 marks, failed in arithmetic.
j Charles Tregoning, 12 years, Kaueranga i Boys' School, Thames, 35G marks, failed in agricoltural chemistry. The r. port of the examiners contained a clause stating that they considered tho standard for tho junior scholerships was too difficult, and suggested tho advisability of raising tho age to fournteen years. Aftor some slight discussion the scholarships woro awarded, as recommended by the examiner*. Scholarships, 18S7. The following aro the subjects for tho ensuing year. Six Junior and three Senior Scholarships will be offered for competition in August, ISS7, according to the conditions set forth in the Board's regulations for tho establishment of Scholarships.
