Ponsonby.
The annual meeting of householders was held last evening. There was a good attendanco, and Mr Dovoro occupied the chair.
Report.—The Committee's report for the year ending January . 2G, 1885, congratulated householders on the efficient and satisfactory manner in which the school had been conducted, and the very evident progress whichd ha been made. Unqualified approval and satisfaction was expressed with the result of the past year, and sincere appreciation of the efforts of Mr Bailey and'1 his stuff of teachers was recorded. With regard to results, the Committee reported that in addition to the scholarships and proficioncy certificates awarded at the close of 1883, an additional scholarship was afterwards awarded to a Ponsonby pupil; while during the past year success oguin attended the efforts of candidates from tho same school, who secured two scholarships. During the year £1,000 was set apart for the purchase of a playground, but a saitnblo site has not yet been obtained. A school was opened early in the year in Richmond Koad, and it has been conducted, satisfactorily and with success, although sickness has interfered with the attendance. The funds of the district are in a satisfactory condition, there being now in hand £34 lOd, subject to a few outstanding ac counts amounting to about £5 Included ; in this is a donation of £10, which, togethei with a book from the same source, is to be devoted to the increase of the school library. A roport by Mr Bailey was also road. Referring to attendance, it stated that during the winter months a large number of children were absent on account of .illnoss, but that during the present quarter lho,at ton dance was remarkably good, there being 804 on the roll, with an average attendance of 67 "8. Eight certificates for attendance wero gained during the year. The winners were all girls, and each received from Mr Devoro a prize. At the district scholarships examinations at Christmas, four were won by the Ponsonby'School, and' at the August examinations two were won by the l'onsonbyc Shool, and one scholar gained a certificate. When tho sohool was examined in standards, in May, the number on the roll was 799, of which 408 were examined, and 339 passed. The percentage of passes for the whole district was lio'4. The Chairman said householders had every reason to be satisfied with the, progress made, and congratulated Mr Bailey on the result'of his labours. The reports were adopted. . Books.—The Chairman stated that the Scripture Gift Association had donated 60 volumes toward the library, and the Board of Education had made a similar present, so that the library, now included 170 volumes.
