Thefts of a Domestic Servant.
Wellington, this day. —At the Magistrate's Court to-day, a domestic servant named Kerr was committed for trial on the charge of stealing jewellery and money from the dwelling of Mr Holt, Upper Willis-street. Accused had been engaged by Mr Holt, but six-weeks ago was dismissed. She was subsequently seen loitering about tho neighbourhood, and during the temporary absence of the occupants blio entered the house and abstracted a jewel case. Kerr was arrested just as she was leaving for Lyttelton, and among her effects was found a steerage ticket to London by the lonic. Nearly the whole of the stolen property has been recovered.
CnßiSTCHur.cn, this day. — Miss Leah. Harris, daughter of Mr M. Harris, was yesterday married at the Synagogue) to Mr N. E. Marks, late of Dunedin. The Synagogue was crowded, and hundreds assembled outside. A wedding banquet and ball took place in the evening at Mr Harris's residence. The five bridesmaids' and bride's costumes were much admired.
Ddnedin, this day.—The " Daily Times'* was successfully lighted last night by electricity.
A meeting of creditors in the estate of William Cay don, hoiclkeeper, was held today. Assets and liabilities are both Bet down at £12,058. A committee has been appointed to inquire into his position.
