Wkiaiscitos, Sunday. Tin: Hon. Fkkueiuck Wiiitakkr yesterday afternoon tendered to the Governor his resignation as Premier, owing to private
business requiring his attention
The resignation was rocoirod by His Excellency, who thereupon sent for Major Atkinson, and entrusted him with tho duty of forming a now Cabinet. Major Atkinson undertook tho task, and will to-morrow submit tho names of his proposed colleagues to Hi» Excellency for approval. Mr Whitakcr left for Auckland in the Hinemoa this morning.
