INTERCOLONIAL FOOTBALL MATCH.
Sydney V. Auckland.
Tub return foatball match between Auckland and Sydney took place at tbe Domain ground this afternoon. The sky was dull and cloudy, and there was scarcely any wind. The spectators numbered upwards of 1,000, and the greatest interest appeared to be taken in the game, The names of the members «f the Auckland team were : Webster (back), Ryan and Wood (thrcg-quaiter-backs), Whiteaide, Kins, and Warbrick (half-back*), Arneil, Carter, Claytoi, Croxton, Bindon, Hetderson, Bigss, Macky, and O'Connor (forwardfc).
Sydney team: Back, Walker j half back?, Flyan, Bayliss, and Graham; quarter back, Fligg; forwards, Raper, Richmond, Barry, Mann, McClatchie, »d----dison, Huwkin?, Howard, Hill, and lhal; lon.
A heavy shower took place, amidst which the ball was kicked oft During the first five minutes Auckland kept the ball close to Sydney's line. Carter got a mark, and had a pot at goal, but the ball fell ahort. Shortly after Whiteslde £>ot a touch, but Ryan failed to kick a goal. A few minutes alter, through one of the Sydney men slipping with the ball, Henderson got a touch, whicb, however, was disallowed. Sydney was forced down, Whitesido got a touch, which was also disallowed, and immediately after Sydney \va* forced down. Sydney now for the first time got into Auckland's torritory, but a splendid run by Weod, who passed to Arneil, took tbe leather again into the Sydney 25. Walker saon after made a grand ruu which brought the ball well into the centre of the field, Wbitcside kicked the ball behind, and then touched down. " Darby," despite the slipperincss of the ball, made a goal. Time for the first term was then called. Auckland seven points to nil. Shortly after the commencement of the second term Sydney was forced down, ond ten minutes later Wood made a kick from field and secured a goal. After the kick-off, Auckland by some brilliant play on the part of Thallori, McClatchie, and Jennings, were forced down, Wood falling on tho ball just in time to save the touch. Almost immediately after Fligg brilliantly kicked a goal from field, At a later stage, Ryan kicked a goal from a touch-down, and O'Connor got a touch, but Ryau failed to kick the goal.
