At the Supreme Court to-day, H'rancis Inais was charged with perjury, The Jury returned a verdict of not guilty. At a public meeting at Lvttelton last night, it was resolved to hold tbe annual regatta on New Year's day. The expends ture on last year's regatta was £461. J. L. Hall was married to-dsy to Miss Bessie Grey the leading lady of the Comedy Company, The Now Zealand Shipping C.'s ship Wairoa, from London bound here, was spoken to by the s.s. Waitaki yesterday afternoon, 10 miles north of Otago Heads. The Wairoa all well.

In the ca>e of the lada Williamson and Aheri, charged with burglariously entering several offices in town, the Crown 'aid the case rested entirely en the unsupported testimony of an accomplice, Jonev who yesterday pleaded guilty. The Judge directed the jury to acqujt the prisoner.-, which was done.,-, '
HOTEL BURNED.
Mclntosh's hotel at Blacks was burned down on Suodav. The loss is estimated at £1,200 The hotel was insured for £500 in the Colonial.
Moses Aickman Price, for embezzlement of lodge funds, was sentenced to two tears; William Bdie, charged with unlawfully killing a heifer, was acquitted.
The monthly meeting of the Acclimatisation. Society took place this afternoon, there being present Messrs Barstow (chairman), Hobos, Bull, Hill, McKecrmia, and Burtt. The secretary reported the. arrival of trout ova from Otago, and their distribution as follows: — Waitakerei, 6,000; Paeroa, 3,000; Raglan, 3,000; Domain, 500; and Waipu, 500. He also announced the presentation of Japanese seeds and a collection of seeds of pasture grasses. The financial statement which was submitted shewed that £100 had been paid to the Domain Board, and tbat there was now a balance in bank of £354 4s Bd. Tho usual accounts were passed for payment, and when our reporter left, a discussion was proceeding ns to the advisability or otherwise of getting additional pintail grouse or prairie hens from California.
