On Saturday ovenlcg last, thero was a large gathering of parents and children at the publlo sohool-room. Onehunga. The Chairman of tho School Committee, Mr C.C. Fleming, conducted tho business of the evening, and then presented tho prizes won at the recent school examination —28 for general suhjeots, and 6 for sewing. Mr J. Gane, on behalf ot the scholars, presented to Mr and Mrs Grant, tbo head-teachers, a very handsome flower-stand and a pair of vase?, as a token ot the esteem in which the children held tbem, and in a tew suitable remarks, begged their acceptance of tho presents as an acknowledgment o( their hearty ondoavocrs to Impart education.—The Key. Mr Mulgan followed on tbo same subject, and as one of tho examiners of tho school, expressed his ploasuro at the progress of the children. -A lengthy prom-ammo was then gone through, connlsting of piano selections, songs, readings, and recitations by tho children. Messrs Gradwell and CranweU contributed several songs In their customary acceptable manner. Tho chairman wound up the evening's business by a few remarks, impressing upon the children their duty .as the future men and women of tbe colony N touße all their great advantages well, so that 10 or 60 years hence, a stupid old man or woman would not be found.
