SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS.

The Henderson's Mill school examination took place on Wednesday, 11th December, 1881, and was held in the school-room. A lull committee waa present, and the eohool-room being well filled with tho parents and friends of the children, tho Hoy Mr SommerviUe, from the Whau, examined them, and Mr Baxter kindly assisted him in judging and awarding the marks, and Madame Hueston and Mr Baxter judgod the writing from their oopy books 1 he Rev Mr SommerviUe addressed the children. The Chairman then proposed a vote of thanks to Mr SommerviUe for his kindness in giving his time and taking tho trouble to help to bring the ohildren forward by these examinations. Mr Baxter seconded It, and so did the ohildren and their friends by giving Mr Sommervdle threo hearty cheers. They also gave the teacher, Chalrman,and Committee three cheers, and broke up (or the fields and woods to their annual picnic. Prizes. — sth Class: Miss Katie Uuncan, Ist prize, and Master A. W. Hepburn,2nd prize, awarded for all general subjects j 3rd class: Mlbh Elizabeth Malam, Ist prize, ond Master Percy Hurrell, 2nd prize, awarded for all general subjects; 2nd olasa : Miss Lottie Stebblngß, Ist prizo, and Master Frank Malam, 2nd prize, awarded for all general s-bjeots; lBtclaBs: Master Willy Hulaton, awarded the prize for writing, and also the prize for arithmetic; 6th class: Map Drawing, Miss Katie Dunoan, Ist prize, Eliza Laurie, 2nd prize; Freehand Drawing, Master Robt. Laurie, Ist prize; 3rd class: Map Drawing, Master Robt. Laurie. Ist prize, Pieroy Hurrell, 2nd prizo; Freehand Drawing. Arthur Stebblngs, Ist prize; Frizes for good attendance, Misses Eliza Laurie and Rlizaboth Malam, and Masters Robert Laurie, Matthew Laurie, John Laurie, Frank Malam, George Malam, Willy Hepburn.
