Fire-Two Shop Burned.

GRAHAMSTOWN, thin day. Brien's second-hand furniture shop, and Wood's fruit shop were burned to the grouud this morning.; The origin is a mystery. About 2 o'clock Mr Adcock, butcher, was awakened by tho extraordinary conduct of his watch dog, and on looking out the front door saw flames issuing, through the roof of Briens shop. Heat once aroused the inmates of the house, Mrs Brien arid her daughter and husband being absent at Auckland, and they had only time to save it,few articles. »The two brigades were promptly on the |spot, and turned on large streams of water, but notwithstanding this the flames rapidly spread to the adjoining' building—the first shop—and consumed it. Adcock's butcher shop was also severely scorched, and had it not been for tho strenuous efforts of the firemen it would! have also fallen a victim to the devouring element. The damages are: Brien, £200; I Wood, £150 ; Adcock, £10. Inaurances : Brien, £150; Wood, £60; Adcock, £50. !
