LATEST SOUTHERN TELEGRAMS.

BTJNEDIN.

[Per Press Telegram Agency.]

This day.

Mr Macassey supports Separation. Mr Macassey, barrister, a candidate for DunediD, spoke at great length last night. He hoped for separation, with two provinces for this island, the General Government (if Canterbury were not willing to assume the responsibility) to have charge of ISelson Marlborough and Westland, and to provide for them out of the consolidated revenue. There was no necessity whatever for Otago to extend its boundaries beyond the Waitaki. The people of Otago would be quite content with the boundaries of their province at present. He advocated a modification of the Provincial form of Government, so far as the legislative powers of the Provincial Council were concerned, considering that these legislative powers should be taken away. The usual vote of the fitness of the candidate was ; carried.
