Our Pigeons Goldfields' Budget
Ottr carrier pigeons from the goldfields brought the following budget of news today : —
THE OHINEMURI PROSPECTORS' CRUSHING. Tlie trial parcels from the Karangahape claim, Obinemuri, which are now being treated at the Tramway battery, excited considerable attention yesterday. The first lot, consisting of about two tons from No. .1. reef, was finished, so far as crushing was concerned, yesterday afternoon ; and as soon as cleaning up was finished the second crushing of less than a ton from No. 2 reef was commenced. All possible care was taken to keep the tests as distinct as possible. New silver was used for the second test, and every precaution was taken to prevent any mixture of the quartz. The first crushing has, up to the present, furiy borne out expectations. There are 4ozs lGdwts hard amalgam from the loose silver, about sozs more may be expected from the plates, and there remains a large quantity of blanket-washiiSgs still for treatment, and as the gold is Hue, there wiil probably be a considerable proportion of it found in the tailings and headings. Allowing a third as a propurtion of the gold from the amalgam that is already to hand it will yield better than Hozs to the ton. Crushing the second lot was started 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. It ••s evidently not so rich in quality as that which has just been treated, but last night there was what might be considered a good payable show on the plates. The treatment of the parcels will not be finished before Monday, but Mr Corbett, the manager of the claim, who is personally superintending the crushing, is fully convinced that the amalgam of each crushing will be remunerative and satisfactory to the shareholders.
