A strapping smiling man named Body was charged with drunkenness and riotous conduct at Ellerslie station yesterday. Mr. Body deposed that he was desirous of taking a holiday and visiting the farfamed Ellerslie Gardens. The name had an attraction for him* he being a Scotchman and well-versed in th^ traditions respecting the heroic actions of Wallace and Bruce. He was also, like his illustrious countryman, Burns, fond of whiskey, and had a vigorous swig of the barley brae, at tbe Ellerslie tnvern. The beverage made him merry and he might have kicked up a little dust.. Sergeant-major Pardy sail that prisoner's conduct whs tnofefc outrageous; he struck several ladies on the platform, and knocked down a child. It was also phowntbat prisoner threatened to punch the pale young reporter of a mornino; contemporary, and piay ducks and drakes with him. Little Pat was represented as incorrigible —there w;.s no such thine: as keeping him in ITe would crawl up the chimney like a cit, run up tho trees, and clear the fences with the agility of a deer. Dr Home said the Bench did not feel equal to the task of dealing wi'h such a young gentleman as little Pat; they would rather leave him to other hands. He would be remanded until Wednesday next, when Mr Beckham would decide the matter, liHle Pat in tho meantime to be kept upon bread and water. ANIMAL INDIFFERENCE TO TAW. Mr Hooker was a purveyor of milk for babes, and only left his cart five minutes to serve some milk, and simply paused to inquire of a mother after her children, who were down with the measles. • As this was an act of humanity rather than of wilful negligence, the bench only imposed a fine of Is and costs.
