BOROUGH COUNCIL REPORTS
WORKS FOR MONTH ADOPTED At Wednesday's meeting of the Akaroa Borough Council the following reports wei'e adopted. Works Committee Councillor Shuttleworth moved the adoption of the foreman's report as follows: Foreman's Report "Since last meeting the lower end of Balguerie street has been sealed and the footpath on the North side of Lavaud street topdressed and Lavand street patched. We moved the fence back at the corner of Percy street and Aylmer street and widened the road at the corners. A new shingle roof has been put on the Blockhouse and three men have been working in the Domain for some time. The groyne on Lavaud Valley creek has been put hi. Cfeaned out the reservoir and grubbed noxious weeds on Reservoir site."
Councillor Shuttleworth drew attention to the fact' that the Reservoir had been cleaned on Monday which was usually washing day and the chairman said he would take a-note oi this.
Councillor Reid said he was very pleased the corner was improved, but he thought the corner could have been rounded better.
The chairman said that the Council was able only to go back a certain distance, the land being given free.
The report was adopted
Councillor Bruce said that the foreman had resurrected an old grader and found it useful behind the truck to rake in metal and screenings.
Reserves Committee
Councillor McNabb moved the adoption of the gardener's report as under:
Gardener's Report
"Report of work of past month at Hospital: Sixty-six hours have been worked there. Work consisted of digging, planting of potatoes and all vegetable seeds, hoeing, weeding and lawn mowing. This year the flower planting wili commence at Hospital Grounds early in November. Lawn mowing has been attended to. The motor mower has not been in very good order and certain repairs have been necessary. Beds about Britomart and Memorial Reserves have been weeded, hoed and watered and a good
stock of plant s '' are in readiness for summer planting. Much time has been occupied with seedlings, seed sowing and planting out at Nursery. In fact it has often been difficult to leave the Nursery owing to work there attending to various orders for plants. All boxes are in use now and thqre are seedlings to be planted out yet. I have been obliged to sow seeds in the open ground owing to shortage of boxes. So far something like 345 dozen tomato plants have been sold (4140)." Seconded by Councillor Whelch and carried.
Councillor Brucc complimented- the gardener on the excellent quality of his plants. His tomato plants were good and were sent out to all paits of the Peninsula. Councillor Reid said he would like to endorse the chairman's remarks about the excellent quality of his plants. Councillor Shuttleworth also spoke of the high grade of tomatoes sold by the gardener. j The gardener'? report was adopted. Finance Report !
