AKAROA COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING HELD YESTERDAY The monthly meeting of the Akaroa County Council was held at Duvauchelle yesterday when there were present Councillors Jos. Hayward. A. R. Haylock, O. A. Thelning and S. J. Vogan. In the absence of the chairman Councillor Jos. Hayward was voted to the chair. Councillor E. Hay attended the meeting after iunch. Clearing Frontages Mr C. H. Holmes, of Messrs Meares Williams and Holmes, solicitors to the Council, waited on the Council in reference to accounts rendered fox giubbing of noxious weeds on property frontages by the Council's staff where notice to eradicate had not been compiled with. The: Council went into committee to consider the matter. On resuming the chairman reported that the. matter wouldi be further discussed by the Council .at its next meeting. Mem bete Reports Councillor Vogan reported the Council's quarryman had applied for a license for petrol and the license had been granted. Lighthouse Road Repairs Councillor Hayolck reported that the Lighthouse keeper at Akaroa Lighthouse had asked for attention to the Lighthouse road. It was left in Councillor Haylock's hands to have the road put in order so that the lighthouse keeper could use his car on the road. The county clerk, Mr C. Stewart, reported that the scarifier on the new power grader was not working satisfactorily and Messrs Booth, Macdonald's representative would inspect the machine and have the scarifier adjusted. An inspection of the machine was made later by the members of the Council and operator and foreman and Mr Robertson of Messrs Booth, Mac Donald. Satisfactory adjustments to the scarifier were made and the Council decided to notify the firm of its approval of the machine and that they would take it over. Foreman's Report Mr W. O'Brien, County foreman, waited on the Council and reported the aushkig on the Pigeon Bay road had otch completed and the crushing aL the harryc Lay quarry was to be completed yesterday unless the rain stopped the men working. Appiit Uon for Metal The County Clerk, Mr C. Stewart, reported that the Pigecn Bay Road Board had applied for 200 yards to 300 yards of metal to be crushed on the Pigeon Bay Road for metalling the Main xoad to Pigeon Bay. The metal was required on the top end of the road. It was decideu to deliver the metal on the' road at 15s per yard if the Pigeon Bay Board agreed to the price of the metal.

New Power Grader Commences Work

* The power grader was at work bull dozing on the French Farm road shifting a slip at Jones Bay the foreman stated. She was doing good work. He hoped to get scarifying done as soon as the scarifier was adjusted. He suggested the power grader should go over the Bossu road before the crushing plant went there. Land's End Metal It was pointed out that gates would have to be widened to let the power grader and crusher through on the Bossu road and on other roads where there were gates as well. The foreman said if metal was taken off the beach at Wainui it would be necessary to make a metalled track for the trucks. He woyld arrange for the quarryman to get extra metal out on the Pigeon Bay road and then go to Wainui to get metal out for Wainui Valley road. Tender lor Firewood The tender of Mr W. A. White, Aknroa for live cords of firewood at 27s Gd per cord at Duvauchelle was accepted. Mr A. W. Macphail thanked the Council for granting his request for metal. N.Z. Counties Association The N.Z. Counties Association wrote that an executive meeting wouid be held on November 17 and remits would be considered received up to November 10th. The letter was received. Old Takamatua Valley Road Five ratepayers of Takamatua wrote asKing if the Council would do some repairs to the old Le Bona Bay rt&c! (Takamatua) from Harrington's to the top of the hill. There were several broken culverts and others were blocked, it was stated, causing the water to scour out the road. They would like a decent horse and stock track. It wad decided Councillors Hayward and Haylock inspect the road and report to next meeting pf the Council.
