AKAROA CROQUET CLUB
OPENING OF SEASON
The Akaroa Croquet club opened its eason yesterday afternoon when there was a good attendance of players and members of other sports clubs.
The Mayor, Mr F. Davis, in declaring the season open wished the club a happy and successful season. He urged members to carry on with their games and forget) the war for a time, though he knew that they would give all the help wanted at the right time. The Mayoress, Mrs F. Davis, was also present and welcomed by the president, Mrs J. E. Armstrong. A sumptuous afternoon tea was served by members. Mr C. Dalbeth on behalf of the bowlers thanked the Croquet club for their entertainment. Mr C. D. Sealey returned thanks on behalf of the Akaroa Tennis club. The following were the winners of the competitions: Putting—Ladies: Mrs C. W. Newton; Men: Mr W. E. Swainson. Hitting the Peg—Mrs C. W. New- ! ton. Angles—Mrs A. Shuttleworth. Scalliwag—Miss E. Le Lievre. Hoops—Miss M. Jacobson. A collection for the Red Cross resulted in the sum of £1 19s being raised for the funds.
