LOCAL AND GENERAL

Next Week's Issues.—The "Akaroa Mail' will be issued next week on Wednesday, October 25 and Friday, October 27, instead of Tuesday, October 24, and Friday October 27.

Akaroa Borough Lights.—The Akaroa Borough street lights are not observing very correct time pust now. They are scheduled to go off at 1 a.m. but they frequently go out at 12.30 a.m. On other occasions half the town is lighted till 1 a.m. while the lights in the other! half go out from half an hour to three quarters of an hour earlier. Residents complain that they expect the lights to be on till 1 a.m. and do not, like going home through darkened streets. No Lights on Bicycles.—There is a distinct nuisance caused by riders of bycycles not carrying-lights. Tins is particularly the case in the roads up the valleys where there is no footpath. Some time ago a lady wa knocked down in Balguerie Street and on Monday evening an eldeny man was knocked down m Grehan Valley the cyclist not stopping to assist him to his feet. The nuisance wants to be gtopped before a serious accident takes place.

Akaroa Recreation Ground. —The kkaroa Recreation Ground now carries a very fine swath of grass. Older residents, will remember that this piece of ground which was reclaimed from the sea consisted at one time of hard clay carted down from L'Aube Hill and in . its early years it was found hard to get any .growth of grass. Apart from the use of stock on the ground Henning's creek has flooded the ground many times, carrying, a good top dressing of soil. Thanks to these agencies the Recreation Ground is now one of the finest pieces of pasture in the Alcaftfa ,s l3orough.
