PROPOSED VISIT OF MINISTERS.
Mr J. McCombs, M.P., has written to the Mayor as follows :-- . "The. Minister of Justice has promised at some week-end to visit Lyttelton in connection with a proposal to hand over the gaol site for educational purposes. The Minister of Education will probably come to Christchurch at the same time ; and the two Ministers would have to return for certain by Monday's steamer. - | "I would probably be able to persuade both Ministers to come to Akaroa on a Monday if you and other public men would organise an itinerary and arrange deputations. It would be quite in order to make representations to the two Ministers to bo conveyed to the Government on matters other than Justice and Education, if it were so desired. Kindly let me know as soon as you conveniently can if such a visit as outlined above would be appreciated and availed of, if I am successful in arranging it. I would also like you to let me know the best means of getting, the Ministers to and froni Akaroa." The Mayor stated yesterday that 1 there were several matters in connection with the Borough that could be brought under the notice of the Ministers. AKAROA HIGH SCHOOL' BOARD. I Mr J. D. Bruce, chairman of the Akaroa High School Board said the Board had a number of matters tc bring before the Minister of Education especially re the hostel for high school 'pupils. ■■ At the present time the Board has no authority to expend its accumulated funds and if the Board were given authority the , Board would take steps to purchase ' the building. , If the Minister visits the . distorict the local bodies should .' arrange for deputations. The Minis-
ter of .Education has also promisei to visit tlie Peninsula and inspec the schools, some of which are in i very bad condition.
