FOOTBALL.

The second cup match between Little Akaloa and Akaroa will be played on the Recreation ground on Saturday. If possible a referee will be obtained from Ohristcbnach for this match.

On Thursday the members of the local club are to have a fancy drees football match prior to the concert which takes place in the evening.

CANTERBURY V. PENINSULA

Thematch between Canterburys second representative team and a combined Peninsula team took place at Lancaster Park on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a defeat of our team by 42 points (four goals f om tries, one potted goal, and six tries) to 3 points (one try). Mr p-oper was referee. The teams were as under :— Canterbury —Campbell, F. Graham, Hobbs (Captain), Butler, Spring, Townend, Fitzgerald, Flavell, Driscoll, Ward, Patterson, Wilson, Hammond, Duggan, and Fraser, Peninsula—Buchanan, Marriott, R. Craw, J. Smith, K. Mcintosh, S. Bam ford, C. and J. (Uaptain) Thacker, Holstein, Grant, Mason W. Craw, Watkins. J. Heuderson and J. Newbigan. The Press says : It was soon evident that the visitors were not at all up to second provincial form. Thny held well together before tbey lost a man ; afterwards they went to pieces as the score shows. The home team showed a marked weaKness in the matter of place kicking, for none of the tries were particularly . difficult. Shortly after the game opened the visitors made a fine combined rush. The ball was mulled by Graham. Mcintosh kicked it over the line and Marriott scored, no goal resulting. Some give and take play followed, and then Canterbury penned their opponents, Hobbs potting a goal from a neat pass. A little later J. Thacker met with an accident, which hurt so -c of his ribs, and as the visitors had no emergency they played a man short for the rest of tbe game. Upon resuming Townend secured a try. as did Graham, neither being converted, In the second spell tbe visitors were practically and Canterbury scored almost as they pleaded. Wilson, Patterson, Townend, Fitzgerald and Graham each score done try, and Spring, ■JJutler and Campbell each converted a try,, - .

In the return match Canterbury beat Queensland by 13 points to 8. Wellington beat Auckland by 3 points to nothing.

The Liitle River and Akaroa second fifteens met on the Akaroa ground on Satnrday lar-t, when a very good game was played. Akaroa won by 17 points to 3. For the Winners Frank Shadbolt, J Hemingway, R. Bell and A. Narbey played well, aa did Reed McManus and Kissel for the Lit'le River boys. Tbe visitors were en'-ailained at a smoke cod~ cert ir. tbe Temperance Hall.

6o Saturday last tbe Little River and Akaroa schoolboys met at Duvaucbelle's to play a friendly game of football. The day was nil that could be desired, and any play, d ft very even game all through although Life River proved -victorious by nine points t-> nil, scoring three tries, none of which w»re converted. For tbe winners Repd; Tini. Coop and Gillandera played well, while for Akaroa Schubert, B. Henning, Black and Cm. N-trbey played a good game. Narh-y's kicking nnd collaring being exceptionally good for so young a player. Mr jHenning kindly arranged that the s.a. Piraki wonld convey the Akaroa boye home again, and the trip was enjoyed immensely- Mr L. Vangioni acted an referee.
