COMMUNITY SERVICE <sf TOC H The highlight of the year’s activities was the formation of a male voice choir, stated the report read at the annual meeting of the Ashburton branch of Toe H held recently. The choir has already made several public appearances, including the Unicef concert, and with a concert party had visited the Tuarangi Home and the Paparua prison. Servicing the Ashburton Public Hospital Library has once again taken up many hours, and members changed books in the library twice a week. The inmates of the Tuarangi Home were visited bnce a month for the purpose of large-scale book distribution, while concerts were arranged every three months.
it was reported that the total membership was 30, with 18 active members. During the 52 meetings last year the average attendance was 12. The debating team consisting of jMessrs W. B. Elwood, M. Wilkinson, K. Gosnell and R. Bloomfield had been successful in winning the Tucker Trophy for senior speakers in the Ashburton County, for the first time in the branch's history. A credit balance was shown in the general fund, while the building fund totalled £560. Officers elected for the ensuing year were:—-Chairman, Mr E. J. Wood; treasurer, Mr L. Cross, senr.; secretary, Mr M. Wilkinson; jobmaster, Mr R. Patterson; pilot, Mr I. Penrose, senr.; members’ representative, Mr W. Lynn. Weekly Meeting At the weekly meeting of the Ashburton branch of Toe H on Monday evening the routine task of repairing library books was carried out. Con-| gratulations were extended to Mr W. 8.. Elwood, a member of the branch, On his election to the Ashburton Borough Council.
