ROYAL VISIT
TOUR MAY BE HEAVILY CURTAILED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 17. The Royal tour of New Zealand in 1952 is expected to be drastically curtailed because of the King’s recent illhealth. It is understood that Their Majesties’ visit will be strictly confined to the four main cities. They are also expected to attend a gathering of Maoris, who will be assembled at one of the North Island centres of Maori activities. It is believed that the Government may consider favourably a scheme for natives of New Zealand’s Pacific dependencies to be given an opportunity to take part in the Maori welcome to the King and Queen. It has been suggested that a representative or representatives of each island in the group under New Zealand jurisdiction should be invited to the Dominion for the purpose. Detailed arrangements for the Royal tour are dependent on consultations between the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs (Mr A. G. Harper) and Buckingham Palace officials. Mr Harper will leave for London on October 27.
