Ashburton Trotting Club —A meeting of the committee of the - Ashburton Trotting Club, was held last evening, when there were present: Messrs D. McLean (chairman), H. Smith, D. McKendry, G. Robertson, J. Sutherland, F. McGafferty, and J. McConachie. After routine business was dealt with a programme was drawn up for the coming meeting, with nominations to close on October 2, the handicaps to he declared on October 9, and the acceptances to close on October 26. The meeting then adjourned.—Football: The football tournament, unfinished last Thursday at Temuka, will he played off on September 13, at the South Canterbury Athletic Club’s grounds at Timaru.

Acclimatisation Conference A round-the-'table conference .between representatives of the Ashburton and North Canterbury Acclimatisation Societies was held in Ashburton this afternoon to consider ways and means of culling the deer herds in the two districts. A report on the conference ' will be presented at the next meeting of the Ashburton Society. New Nurses’ Home: The new nurses’ home at the County Hospital, which has jjeen erected at a cost of nearly £6000,' is now practically out of the contractors’ hands. The ground floor portion will be put into occupation soon. The upper storey has been in use for some time.
