JURY SERVICE

~ BILL AFFECTING PUBLIC , , , SERVANTS , ,V (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An announcement that he hoped to introduce a Bill this session to amend the Juries Act so that most public servants would in future be liable for jury service, was made by the At- ‘ torney-General, Mr T. C. Webb, today. The Minister said that besides depriving the community of the service of, a law-abiding and responsible section, the present exemption increased the burden on those who remained liable to serve. “Some public servants must necessarily be exempted," said the Minister, “such as law enforcement officers and men holding key positions, but there seems to be no valid reason why the remainder*of the Public . Service should not take their turns of jury service. There is no suggestion that public servants seek this exemption or are reluctant to do their share of this work."
