Headquarters of the British Army, Far East Command, Singapore, announced that in response to a request by the commander-in-chief of the United Nations forces in Korea for the dispatch of reinforcements without delay, the United Kingdom Government has decided to send an infantry force from Hong Kong-to Korea immediate-
ly The Hong Kong units will be replaced shortly by the First Battalion of the Wiltshire Regiment, now en route from Britain, and by certain Gurkha units now undergoing engineering training in Malaya. - An armoured car squadron will also be sent from Malaya to Hong Kong. The Gurkha unit comprises fullytrained infantrymen at present training as engineers. * • The Wiltshire Regiment battalion advance echelon arrived in Malaya k some weeks ago. It will rejoin the remainder of the battalion now en route to Hong Kong. The armoured car squadron will be drawn from the Fourth Hussars. , Headquarters stated that the withdrawal of these units from 4 Malaya would not be to the detrimenuot the “Briggs plan” to subdue Communists terrorism in Malaya.—Reuter.
