BOARD EMPLOYEES

REFUSAL TO WORK OVERTIME (P.A.) AUCKLAND, August 18. A request to call a conference of parties under the Industrial Relations Act has been made by the Auckland Harbour Board to the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr C. L. Hunter). The purpose of the conference would be to discuss a dispute in which members, of the Harbour Board Employees’ Union are refusing to work overtime until they get a satisfactory assurance from the board of improved amenities on the wharves. Notification of this has been received by the union from the Conciliation Commissioner. The union executive to-day decided to adhere to a resolution of a general meeting on Wednesday evening that its executive will meet the board in committee at any time, but no overtime would be worked until the complaints had been heard and an indication given that action would be taken. Unless the deadlock is broken no work will be possible by watersiders to-morrow morning, as there will be no cranemen available.
