WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

I’AIRTON MEETING Owing to the inclement weather, there was only a fair attendance at the April meeting of the Fairton Institute, at which Mrs H. Jamison presided. Mrs H. Chappell was pianist, and the motto was "If you know -a good thing—pass it on.” A motion of sympathy was passed to Mrs Willis, who had recently suffered bereavement. Mrs L. Hawke and Miss Oram offered to sell poppies in the district for the R.S.A. Members were reminded that Miss Hight will address the May meeting on Tuesday, May 2. A social half-hour was spent. Competitions were won by Mrs F. McCalman and Mrs J. Mackay. Mrs W. Barr sang a solo ami Mrs H. Chappel contributed a musical item. The roll-call was “a saying of my mother’s,” which all members responded to.

Mrs. Barr and Miss Stevens judged the competitions, ns follows: Specimen bloom, Mrs .T. Bisset and Mrs A. Lloyd (equal) 1, Mrs L. Brown 3, Mrs H. Jamison 4; jar of flowers, Mrs H. Jamison and Mrs Bisset (equal) 2: beetroot, Mrs H. Jamison 1; chocolate cake, Mrs J. Bisset and Mrs L. Hawke (equal) 1, Mrs H. Jamison 3, Miss Oram 4; oven cloth, Mrs A. Lloyd I, Mrs 11. Jamison , Mrs J. Bisset 3. . The hostesses were Mesdames L. Brown, A. Blain and W. Barr.
